Project Specifications
A lot of Edgewise's features revolve around your project's specifications. They are used in many contexts, for different user types (roles). Below are a few places where specifications come into play.
Spec Editor
Every project has a "Spec Editor". This is where you can add / edit your project's specifications. Specs are in hierarchical format:
- Categories (e.g. "Kitchen")
- Elements (e.g. "Backsplash")
- Options (e.g. "White Subway Tile")
- Items (e.g. "2x4 Porcelain Tile")
One powerful feature to the Spec Editor, is the "Phase Lock". You can "lock" an option when the construction of a unit hits a particular phase. For example, the "backsplash" must be selected by the "drywall" phase, or it locks to the "standard" option.
You can also tag project photos with certain specs, allowing you to upload options and better illustrate to your buyers what options will look like.
- Navigate to Project Settings > Images.
- Select the three dot menu for the specific image.
- Use the bottom specifications search bar to find the image's displayed specs (you can select multiple).
- Click "Save."
Design Studio
The Design Studio is an interactive / visual way for buyers to make their personalization selections. The same specs that are entered into the Spec Editor, are available in the Design Studio. If the buyer's unit has already progressed to the point that some items have passed their phase lock, that particular option will be disabled.
The Design Studio is also available to users before they become buyers. It gives them an opportunity to price out their personalization before buying, which helps the potential buyer visualize / commit to the home.

Build Order
Once a buyer has made their selections via the Design Studio, a Build Order is generated. This Build Order is print friendly, and is often kept in the unit during construction. It outlines all the selected options, as well as any custom items, and additional notes about the unit.
